ALA HOTEL KYOTO

Awesome location, within minutes of walk to the Kyoto station. Building is very new and chic. Fantastic breakfast buffet.

Soundproof is questionable (could hear people upstairs and in the hallway). Also would appreciate some more hooks in the room.

Great facility, good sized rooms by Japanese standards, great onsen, friendly and helpful staff.

Very close to train station, which was nice, but did have to travel by train or bus to do anything.

I loved our stay. It was near Kyoto Central Station but just enough of a walk to not feel caught in the busy rush of the station. Lots of places to eat around and a comfortable walk to Kamo River which is probably my most favorite place to just walk along the banks slowly and watch the river and people flow by. Room was clean and while Japan hotels always have small rooms, this too was small but felt spacious enough for two. Decors are clean and zen so it feels calming to come back after a day out.

The location was great the place is clean. The only thing is we couldn’t check in on our first day because we are arriving late and bullet train is closed by then. And they wouldn’t adjust our reservations or move it.

Location near Kyoto station was convenient. Room was nice and clean. Breakfast was quite good with a lot of variety. Staff were friendly and room was clean. Shower had wonderful pressure.

Bed was a little firm for my taste, the room had a slightly strange smell-not bad-but strange, almost like sawdust. No view and little natural sunlight.

This hotel is so close to Kyoto Station if you go out the correct exit. If you don't, you will drag your suitcase up a hill, across a bridge, down the hill, and around the corner. So pay attention to what Google Maps is telling you about getting out of Kyoto Station - its very large. Room was a good size and very clean. We were surprised to learn we COULD use the on-site Onsen (even with our tattoos!). We had absolutely thought that would not be available to us. Laundry facilities were great to have but be prepared for your clothes to come out of the dryer still damp (especially if you're washing jeans/sweat shirts). Laundry detergent was available at the front desk for a low price. We had the breakfast buffet included in our stay and it was bit chaotic if you go right when it opens. But the food (and variety) were outstanding. Lots of bus tours use this hotel because it has a large parking lot. So that means lots of larger groups. Front desk staff were all really lovely - easy to communicate with and very helpful with questions. They helped us ship our luggage to Osaka (HIGHLY RECOMMEND DOING THIS).

Immaculate and exceptional stay. The property knows their identify and owns it exceptionally well. Beautiful ambience with amazing staff to match. I cannot express about how much I love this hotel. I don't usually leave reviews but this hotel is a caliber ahead of the rest. Amazing staff (that could also speak English) to assist with anything. AMAZING I repeat AMAZING location being within a 5 minute away from Kyoto Station. Beautiful ambience that is supported by clean and warm artistic themes, lighting, calming background music, furniture, and spacious rooms.

The ONLY thing that became an issue was the washing/drying machines: 1. Due to a room being filled with 4 washers/heaters, the room becomes EXCEPTIONALLY hot during peak hours. 2. The support sheet that relayed the time it takes to complete cycles are incorrect. I waited over an hour and a half for each cycle and it still never finished.3. Despite following the directions, the washer broke down and I had to purchase another detergent packet.

Close to Kyoto station but some distance to the third and fourth streets, which are the main attractions in Kyoto located. Great spring spa onsite that is free of charge to the hotel guests.

Got bitten by some sort of bug by wearing the spa clothes the hotel provided. Also the hotel staff were not that welcome and friendly.

Great location super close to the train station a lot of restaurants. Convenience stores across the street. Super clean. I would definitely go back

If you stay for several days the breakfast might get monotonous. There is variety but after a few nights you might wish for something different. Of course, a very subjective experience / perspective.

Close to train station short walking distance, easy to find, staff gave precise directions. Firm bed and pillows, good quality bedding. Free laundry facilities (except detergent). Good breakfast with Japanese favorites and also egg station. Good public bath - female side has special key entry.

Standard room very small. Window is recessed with a decoration rock garden. Bathroom has a big window light comes through at night. Lobby doesn't have much seating.

Breakfast was plentiful and reasonable variety of both Japanese and western menu items, though leaning a bit more towards Japanese. Decor in the hotel was nice Japanese aesthetic and doors kept out hallway noise well. Staff were kind and helpful. Location was a plus, with only a short walk to the main Kyoto station.

I wish hotels wouldn't use front to back style closet rods like we had in our room, as this is awkward to use and limits amount of clothing that can be hung up Side to side rods are preferable, I believe. I also think a hook or two in the bathroom would be helpful for hanging up towels I did appreciate the small couch in the room though so we had somewhere to sit other than the beds

Bathroom was uncomfortable for Western travellers. Very nice soaking tub but difficult for showers. Few hooks or bars for hanging and not much shelf space around the sink.

The breakfast was very good. The shower was very good, roomy and comfortable.The location is not so far from the Kyoto station like 2-3 minutes walking.

The WIFI didn't work for 2 days until they solved it with a private access point.
